John came to Babson after six years as an equity analyst for a long/short hedge fund in Connecticut.  He was inspired to see and believe the potential for Industrial Ecology by Paul Hawkin's book "Natural Capitalism."  He embraces the idea that there is no "away" in "throw it away" and believes that garbage is an asset. He expects to have a tremendous impact on environmental accountability in the financial community.  He has taught his dog how to recycle and admires the heck out of his wife. In 2000, he graduated with a B.A. in Art-History from Williams College in Williamstown, MA.

Don Andes
VP Media/Entertainment

Leveraging his undergraduate studies in Architecture and Interior Design, Don looks to develop net-zero residential and mixed-use infill spaces that provide affordable living for median income families in large cities. To this end, he’s spent the summer exploring designs and building techniques that embrace William McDonough's cradle-to-cradle approach. Additionally, this summer, he’s traveled to Japan to study Toyota’s Production System as well as better understand the Japanese prefab home industry, both of which he believes holds a great deal of promise for the future of green building in the US.

Last year, Don was proud to help the BEEC host the extremely successful E3 conference. This year, as the VP of Media/Education for the BEEC, Don looks to develop an educational component for the club that would help new students quickly develop a vocabulary and understanding of a variety of cleantech industries. After completing the MBA program at Babson, Don plans to return to the endless sunshine of Los Angeles, where he will develop his company. The Babson Energy and Environmental Club (BEEC) is a carbon neutral organization, purchasing carbon offsets to counterbalance the carbon dioxide emissions resulting from our events and activities. The club’s purchase for the 2007-08 academic year offsets approximately 1% of all carbon emissions generated from energy consumption and heating applications at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business this year. BEEC’s Green-e certified offsets have been purchased through Carbonfund.org, a non-profit organization that supports renewable energy, reforestation and energy efficiency projects worldwide to reduce carbon emissions and the threat of climate change.
